Rw's Random Life Storytime: The Lone Woman of San Nicolas Island

The Lone Woman of San Nicolas Island

Hey folks here is a Californian based story about Juana Maria enjoy. 1853 ad there was an Indian woman who spoke a language not known to the natives was found on San Nicholas Island by Cptn George Nidever from(1802-1883).

Cptn Nidever arrived in California in 1834. A renowned hunter known for his skill in tracking Otters along the californian coastline and on the Channel Islands. Nidever was also an accomplished sailor, at one time employed as a pilot by government surveyors when they developed maps of the coast and the islands.

San Nicholas is the most remote of the Channel Islands, and located  53 miles off the Coast, west of Los Angeles CA.
Cptn Viscaino landed on San Nicholas on December 6, 1602. According to him it was densely populated at the time.

The Southern Channel Islands (Santa Catalina, San Clemente and San Nicholas) appear to have been inhabited by people of the Takic branch of the Uto Aztecan language. Skilled sailors at their craft.
Not much is known about the San Nicholas Islanders from 1602 to 1800 except that by 1800 the population had declined markedly.
1811, a group of 25-30 Kodiaks from the Russian camp at Sitka (Alaska) were landed on the island to hunt otter and seal.

Rw's Coffee 4 You

Featured video from Lucid Dreamer @ Youtube

What is it about coffee well I usually have 1 cup a day due to my anxiety disorder. I drink instead Green Tea, People often drive for miles to shops like Starbucks, Coffeebean, and Tierra Mia for their caffeine fixes, though they can have a cup of Joe at home speaks volumes.

                        How the Coffee Roasts

To take coffee consumption to a whole other level of tastes is to roast the beans resulting in a darker tone and releases its oils to the surface.

American Roast: A staple form of coffee in the US households medium brown in color but flat or lacks in brilliance when it comes to taste.

Brazilian Roast: Dark in color, and flavor however  this coffee is not harvested in the country of Brazil.

French Roast: Espresso like in flavor without taking away the smoothness. The color of the beans like semisweet chocolate with oils that comes to the surface when roasted in a coffee machine.

So how do you folks like your coffee leave your comments down below thank you.

Rw at Balboa Park

Logo Design by FlamingText.com

L
Balboa Park open 24 hrs and offers free wifi started off  as 1400 acres of land put aside 1868 by San Diego civic leaders.  “City Park”, the scrub-filled mesa that overlooked present day Downtown San Diego sat without formal landscaping or development for more than 20 years.

The first steps in the Park's renewal  were made in 1892, largely due to the contributions of Kate Sessions. Sessions group offered to plant 100 trees a year within the Park as well as donate trees and shrubs around San Diego city in exchange for 32 acres of land in the Park boundaries to be used for her commercial nursery. 7 popular species, including the birds of paradise, queen palm and poinsettia were introduced into the Park’s horticulture because of Sessions’ early efforts. In fact, many of her original trees are alive and visible today.  Kate Sessions earned the title “The Mother of Balboa Park” at the 1935 California Pacific International Exposition.

The San Frisco Treat

                               Down Memory Lane

To take a trip up memory hill via Hudson ave was like a step back into the past(1994) to be exact. In Hunter's Point my Aunt Bridgette's former neighborhood I stopped by Youngbloods Park which has changed little sinse the 90's. I remember uses a piece of a cardboard box to go down the concrete slide with my cousins, and other relatives bringing back some good memories

The Youngbloods Park Recreational Center that was closed at the time. Still the same after all these years.

Golden Gate Bridge

Despite not having enough time to take more photos on my to do list I was able to take The Muni Bus #30 to the Golden Gate. Paying little attention to the bustling crowds of people sorrounding the new Welcome Center/Cafe while Taking a brisk walk across this grand bridge I was between a rock and a hard place with the speeding car traffic to the left, and the cold bay waters to the right so I was cautious about my every step. The bright orange/redish towers was amazing viewing them up close and personal. I wanted to walk to the other side of the bridge and take more photos however I was cut for time so I left on a good note to Downtown San Francisco.                        Tips
  • Walking is the best ways to experience the immensity of the Bridge. It is 1.7 miles long and it takes approximately 45–60 minutes to walk across.
  • The sidewalk is open to visitors seven days a week during the hours between sunrise and sunset.
  • The Bridge is open to autos and cyclists 24 hours a day.
  • There are no bike rentals at the Golden Gate Bridge Plaza directly, but you can rent a bike from our friends at Sports Basement and bike the Bridge.
